Dear WAA - Seattle Chapter!
I just finished my winter semester at the University of Wisconsin
and am writing to inform you of my progress. Last semester, I was
enrolled in Italian Literature in Translation 254, Abnormal
psychology 509 Animal Biology 101 and 102 and was also a part of the
Undergraduate Research Scholars Program (ILS 250). I was successful
in all of these classes and ended the term with a 4.0 and made the
deans list. Thanks to my scholarship I did not have to wash dishes
in the cafeteria and instead was able to work as a research
assistant in a lab. Through the undergraduate research scholars
program I was an assistant to Dr. Cai in the physiology department
of the medical school. I worked in his lab for 10 hours a week
investigating the link between obesity and type 2 diabetes. I do
everything from feeding and weighing mice to testing their glucose
levels to genotyping them. My work in the lab will cumulate when I
present my findings at the Undergraduate Symposium in April. also
plan on participating in the Polar Plunge this February, (where I
jump into frozen over lake Mendota to raise money for the Special
Olympics) as well as remaining an active part of my sorority, Pi
Beta Phi. The spring semester I will be taking Psychology Statistics
210, Zoology 611, Botany 130, ILS 250, and African American Art
History 242. I look forward to the challenges these new classes will
bring and expect to meet them with success. I continue to appreciate
the opportunities your generosity has given me to focus more on
academic endeavors.
Sincerely,
Jessica Holliday
