Claudia Move to Madison

After being Seattle Alumni Club's "spark plug" for more years than she wants to admit, Claudia (aka Bucky) Pogreba and husband Tom moved back to Madison on March 31, 2000. Soon afterwards Claudia wrote us the following note to assure all WAA - Seattle Chapter that it still snows in Wisconsin. You can always reach Tom and Claudia by E-mail at poggrams@aol.com.

Greetings from Madison

Greetings WAA - Seattle Chapter!

We did finally arrive in Madison a day later than anticipated due to a delay in the house closing and a mechanical problem with the trailer pulling the Subaru. The diesel truck was a bit sluggish going over the mountain passes (a BIG yellow truck with a VW engine) and then there was bad weather in Montana. In fact, at one point I thought we may have to start homesteading in Montana, however we did finally escape and did arrive lateTuesday afternoon. Our neighbors across the field (college roommate's brother and wife) were here with a casserole of Lasagne, salad, rolls and a 6 pack of beer. We happened to conveniently with in reach pack the left over beer from our last Rain City Badger get together in Mill Creek so after unloading our bed and six chairs located at the very back of the truck we got down to some serious business!! Since then it has been a steady stream of friends and family coming by to assist.

Our new house is like an English (maybe German) cottage and I love it!! Quite spacious - could easily accommodate a Rain City Badger gathering. The Rose Bowl picture of Hal and me is proudly displayed above the fireplace. The bed in the guest room is now made up - we are accepting visitors! No advance notice required!

Thursday we started the day with coffee and scones at Ancora coffee with Sue and George. Got to see and talk with Katie Senn who is doing well. We then walked around the Capital and down State Street.

Just came in from playing in what is left of our 6 inches of snow with niece and kids. Yesterday we got hit with a good ole fashion mid-west blizzard. All friends and family felt it was a mean trick or a welcome to the Mid-west designed by nature especially for Tom. First April blizzard since 1973 the year we got engaged! Did manage to fight our way through the high winds and drifting snow to find a Friday Fish Fry at the Oak Crest Tavern on Old Middleton Road. Beer Batter Lake perch and was it the best! If I keep eating and imbibing like I have the past 4 days I will begin to take on a whole new appearance!

For the beer enthusiast, we have discovered a new midwest brew - Spotted Cow brewed in New Glarus. Quite nice. Again thanks for the great send off. That's the latest news from Elderberry Road, Madison. The following are pictures from our move to Madison, WI.

Bucky Past,
Claudia Pogreba
